Returns and Exchanges

All designs sold by Mornington Sea Glass are of the highest quality. It is important to us that you are happy with your purchase. Our refund and exchange policy follows guidelines set by Consumer Affairs Victoria:

You are entitled to choose a refund or repair or exchange or credit if the item you have bought from us:
has faulty craftsmanship or, is significantly different to those shown or described to you.

Please note, glass breakage and normal wear and tear are not included.

Additionally, we photograph our sea glass outside in natural sunlight so the colour of the sea glass in your gift may vary slightly in an inside setting compared to the photo.

On genuine sea glass you will see small marks and indentations. These reflect the many, many years of being exposed to the sun, waves, rocks and sand. Sea glass is not perfectly smooth and rarely flawless. Treasure this, as it is how you know you have something that is truly old and unique and has been shaped by nature itself.

While we are not obliged to give a refund if you simply change your mind, it is our belief that we are not happy unless you are, so we will provide you with an exchange item or credit if your original purchase item is returned to us within 10 business days. Items must be returned unworn, undamaged with the original packaging and copy of sales receipt. Do not tape boxes as it will damage them for re-use. Our environment policy is important to us and we pride ourselves in recycling and re-using wherever possible.

We will pay all shipping costs for refunds due to craftsmanship only.

To make a return or exchange, you must contact us prior to sending your item(s) back.

The silver we use

At Mornington Sea Glass we have designed our jewellery to be as easy as possible to enjoy.

We choose to use Argentium silver when we set our silversmith jewellery where possible not only because it has an incredible natural brightness and lustre, but it is harder, stronger and more durable than regular sterling silver. Made with a touch of germanium, Argentium it is also more tarnish resistant.

This means our silversmith jewellery pieces made with Argentium are more resistant to damage from scratches and dents, which is great for those of us who love to regularly wear it!

Argentium silver is also more pure than traditional sterling silver (which has 92.5% silver).

One other important aspect of Argentium silver production to note is all our silver is sourced from recycled material, and our supplier has traceability of that silver back to the refinery. We know that sustainability and ethical manufacturing is important to our customers

For those with allergy concerns, Argentium alloys do not contain nickel.

All other jewellery pieces and chains are sterling Silver. At Mornington Sea Glass we will always state in the product description if your jewellery has been made with Argentium silver or Sterling Silver.

Argentium is more expensive than regular sterling silver, however we strongly believe if your sea glass has survived being tossed around in the bay for many decades, then offering slightly more expensive, higher quality jewellery options means it can be enjoyed for even longer!

Ring Sizing

Standard ring sizes are given in millimetres based on the inner diameter of the ring.

Sea glass, once set, is a challenge to re-size given it cannot be heated to the higher temperatures that precious gemstones can withstand. It is important to know your ring size before ordering.

Remember a ring should fit comfortably and be snug enough that it won’t fall off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle. Each of our fingers are a different size, so please take that into consideration. Your finger size can change depending on time of the day and weather.

It is always best to get your finger measured by a local jeweller, or if you are local, we can measure it for you.

If you are unable to have your finger measured professionally, you can place a ring that fits you well on top of a ruler to find out the inside diameter in millimetres. You can then use the sizing chart to determine your size.

You can also send us a photo of your ring placed on top of a ruler so we can read the inside diameter.

When buying a surprise sea glass ring it is best to check with friend or relative of who you are buying the ring for, if they know their size.

Another option is to measure a ring that already fits who you are buying the ring for, using the above ruler method. Check the above sizing chart to determine the size.

If the ring you purchased/have had custom made doesn’t fit and needs a slight alteration, we provide a free first re-size to help you get the right fit. You just pay the postage to send the ring to us and we’ll cover the shipping back to you once re-sized. If it needs another small alteration, postage to us and return will be needed. If there is a substantial re-size needed that requires a full re setting, then there will be an additional charge of $50 to cover time and silver, plus return postage of $9.

Caring for Mornington Sea Glass jewellery and homewares

To keep clean your sterling silver jewellery, simply wipe away any dust or finger marks with a soft cloth or, for more intricate pieces, wash them in warm soapy water, rinse and dry immediately to avoid water marks. A warm wash is great for sea glass as well.

Not much work is required to keep your Argentium® Silver jewellery shiny and bright. Similar to sterling silver, simply use a little soap (like shampoo or dish soap), water, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse very well in clean running tap water.  Pat dry with a clean absorbant cloth and let air dry. Make sure your jewellery is completely dry before storing.

An occasional wipe with a clean silver polishing cloth will help to maintain your jewellery’s shine and lustre. For Argentium silver we recommend Goddard’s cloths.

Please do not use ‘dip’ polishes or electrolytic cleaning processes with Argentium silver. As recommended for other precious metals, it is advisable to remove Argentium silver and sterling silver jewellery before entering swimming pools/spas/ natural hot springs and before carrying out activities where your jewellery could come into contact with chemicals.

Sea glass is strong but it is old glass! It can damage if dropped or knocked on a hard surface. If you would like a more frosted look to your sea glass wash and dry with a soft cloth or towel. If you prefer a ‘just washed up from the ocean’ look, you can dab a small amount of mineral oil on the sea glass after drying.

Never put your sea glass homewares such as canapé knives, pate knives, cheese knives, wine stoppers, jam spoons, appetizer spoons, appetizer forks or coffee scoops in the dishwasher. A gentle HANDWASH only is recommended.

Crystal Jewellery

Please note while we handcraft our sea glass jewellery, our crystal pendants are sourced from reputable makers and added to our collection to complement our sea glass designs. Similar to sea glass, each crystal has a unique shape and hue so while jewellery style is similar, the shape, colour intensity and pattern on the crystal will vary and be unique from piece to piece. An uncut un-shaped gemstone of gem grade is called  ‘rough’. It is the stone in its natural form, often found in the ground, just as mother nature made.
