Argentium®Silver and sterling silver loves to be worn so the best way to keep it looking beautiful is to do just that! To keep it sparkling simply use a little soap (like shampoo or dish soap), water, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse well in clean running tap water. A warm wash is great for sea glass as well.
Pat dry with a clean cloth and let air dry. Make sure your jewellery is completely dry before storing.
An occasional wipe with a clean silver polishing cloth will also help.
Keep in a zip lock plastic bag or airtight container when you are not wearing your jewellery to protect it.
For any mermaids wearing their jewellery in saltwater, rinse with fresh water after your swim and pat dry. A soapy wash to make sure all the salt water is off is better!
Definitely keep your jewellery at home when visiting a natural spring and remember chemicals from pools, spas, house cleaners, skin lotions, sunscreens, perfumes, some medications and foods can also affect your jewellery!
Jewellery can get caught in hair and clothing so best to put on after getting dressed and taken off before undressing. Lastly, sea glass is strong, but it is old glass! It can damage if dropped or knocked on a hard surface.
Personally, I wear my sea glass and cast shell necklaces 24/7. I do take my rings off to sleep and then wear them during the day, every day. If I do swap a necklace over, I do the chain up at the clasp- stops me from losing the pendant as well as the chain from tangling (especially useful for finer chains!) and store in a plastic bag until the next wear. I also wash my pieces in warm soapy water every now and again and this works well for me.
If you have worn your handcrafted Mornington Sea Glass jewellery for a while and feel it needs an extra sparkle, we offer a complimentary clean and polish. You either leave your jewellery at Artisan’s Alley Mornington or send with return post to us, please get in touch to discuss!
